Reserve Your Front Row Seat at Minnesota's Election Audit!
(posted August 7, 2008)

In 2006, Citizens for Election Integrity Minnesota, the League of Women Voters MN and 200 volunteers made election history by participating in the nation's first state-wide observation of an election audit.  Now these two organizations are teaming up again to organize an observation of the 2008 MN election audit and we'd like you to join us!

As a volunteer observer, you will be part of a non-partisan team that will attend your county's audit. Your team will observe election officials hand count the ballots. As a volunteer you will observe, document, and report what takes place.

Most audits last between two and five hours and take place in the County Seat. CEIMN will provide training for all volunteers in October. Election judges are welcome to volunteer – it is not a conflict of interest to do so.

Why volunteer? Having independent citizen observers helps ensu re that the audit process is open and transparent. Public involvement will improve voter confidence in the election results.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Sarah at
sarah@ceimn.org, 612-724-1736, or sign up via CEIMN's web site at www.ceimn.org

Serve Your Community

Retired teachers may wish to consider opportunities to serve their community through any of the three programs of the Senior Corps: the Foster Grandparent, Senior Companion and Retired and Senior Volunteer programs.  Information is
available at www.mnseniorcorps.org. All of these programs operate throughout Minnesota.

Opportunities with the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA)

In partnership with AARP, many individuals leverage their background in education and serve as instructors in driver safety courses or assist low and middle income families with tax counseling.

NRTA With Our Youth!

The NRTA With Our Youth! program provides opportunities for retired educators and youth to work together to address the needs of youth and the broader community. State and local retired educators association volunteer leaders use the resources provided by NRTA to organize local self-sustaining direct service projects for and with youth.

NRTA made a three-year pledge at the 1997 President's Summit for America's Future held in Philadelphia, to serve 1.5 million youth in 2,000 communities with a total of 45 million service hours through its affiliated state retired educators' associations (REAs). The goal was met and exceeded. The program provides five key resources for youth:

  • an on-going relationship with a caring adult
  • a healthy start in life
  • safe places to learn and grow
  • a marketable skill upon graduation
  • an opportunity to serve in their communities

Because our members and associations believe in the tremendous potential of youth to be a positive force in our society today, we have dedicated ourselves to ensure that youth have the five key resources to be productive members of their communities.

State and local REAs continue to serve over 500,000 youth in more than 1,000 communities annually.
