Operation Connect & Protect (OCP)

The goal of OCP is to notify REAM members of events and actions that may affect our pensions.  All members will be notified via email which will contain a link back to our website for further information.  It is our intent that our members will email or call the decision makers to express their feeling about the potential change.  Lastly, we would like those who contacted the decision makers to fill out a very short survey which will be public.

Also, It is advisable at the caucus to seek election to the next level, where you will have the chance to again support the resolution. You can be a major part of ensuring the viability of employee pensions.

In the sections below is the resolution  which includes the reasons (these are identified as the WHEREAS) for it.

Resolution to Protect Employee Pensions in Minnesota

"WHEREAS: Every American worker, private or sector public, deserves sufficient income in his/her old age to ensure a dignified retirement, despite ongoing erosion of the retirement safety net,

WHEREAS: Defined benefit plans have virtually disappeared in the private sector only to be replaced with a retirement system that forces workers to link their future security to the vagaries of the stock market,

WHEREAS: The median age 60-62 household with a 401(K) has less than one-quarter of what is expected to be needed to support themselves in their old age and is at risk of having to rely on taxpayer-paid public assistance,

WHEREAS: Spending in Minnesota's public -sector retirees generates over $700 million in tax revenue and supports $4.5 billion in economic activity in the state,

THEREFORE: Be it resolved that pubic-employee defined- pension plans are an asset to the state o
f Minnesota and should be retained, and steps taken to restore the pension safety net for private-sector workers".
