REAM is an independent, autonomous, self-governing organization of all retired school employees who wish to belong.
REAM is a non-profit organization established in 1954 as a totally volunteer group. Officers and board members are elected and/or appointed by REAM members for two-year terms. REAM’s Board of Directors meet quarterly and its Executive Committee meets three or more times a year.
REAM conducts legislative workshops for its over 50 local retiree units and provides speakers and other assistance upon request.
REAM works with NRTA/AARP on issues of concern to all older citizens at the state and national level.
REAM works closely with the three statewide public employee retirement systems including the Minnesota Teachers Retirement Association and the Public Employees Retirement Association. Representatives regularly attend meetings of the Investment Advisory Council, the Minnesota State Board of Investment (the state agency responsible for investing all public employee pension funds) and the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement which establishes pension policies for all Minnesota public employees.
REAM, together with other public retiree groups, worked successfully to achieve many pension improvements for over 50 years.
